Papal Chase

ketchup with us
#14
Mel and Michele have invited us to write up to 57 words for Ketchup With Us.  This week, we are supposed to write about our doppelgӓnger. This was a hard one for me, since I really don’t like to show pictures of myself.  But, being a good sport, I decided to go for it.
_________

This week, many people have said that I am the spitting image of the new Pope.  As many times as I’ve heard this, I really don’t see the resemblance.  That’s me on the left and that’s Pope Francis on the right.

Me
Pope Francis

What do you think?

In honor of the new pope’s election, I wrote a poem, entitled “Papal Chase”, which is not part of my entry, but is something I wanted to share with this quirkish and eclectic group of readers.

Cardinals debated and deliberated
Cannon commentators speculated

Talking heads examined papal precepts
And pondered whether the smoke was truly white

Vatican experts analyzed, prognosticized
and philosophized

On the sidelines, we squirmed and fidgeted,
and fretted and sweated

So happy to have witnessed
A new spectator sport!

Your comments are appreciated. By the way, I know I have a made up word in my poem, done for the sake of fine poetry.

  1. This is great!!! A wonderful tribute to the pope. You know, you strike a huge resemblance of Mr. Brad Pitt. :)

    1. Well, ok, maybe I'm just a little better looking than Brad, but these things are so subjective. Glad yu liked my little Pope piece though I was really making fun of the media. Kir, thanks for coming by and commenting, as always.

  8. On behalf of post-Katrina New Orleans, I want to say thank you for everything that you and the good people at the Make It Right Foundation have done for our city. Please tell our pal Ellen hi for me the next time you see her.

Wait, what? You were KIDDING? Aww, man!

Well, thanks for playing anyway, LD. Great stuff. :)

  9. Ouch! I didn't know the history there. I could have just as easily chosen another picture of myself, where people say I have a close resemblance to George Clooney. Thanks Michele.

  10. Oh, and fine poetry it is too. Clever and most original 'almost' 57 words. I think there is something fishy about the photo on the left, but I can't put my finger on it.
