So
anyway, while I’m still not sure what I’m supposed to do on Twitter, I’ve been
reading a lot of tweets and I, sort of, get what people are doing. Maybe it’s my upbringing, but I still hesitate
to respond to people’s tweets who I don’t know, as I feel like I’m interrupting
someone’s private conversation. I know this is ludicrous, since people put this
stuff out there for the world to see, right?
But
I also see that tweeting is somewhat addictive and I’ve noticed a lot of bloggers have
offered New Year’s resolutions to the effect of: “I will spend less time on
Twitter.” So, before I get into any bad
habits, I resolve to not spend too much time on Twitter and I absolutely will
not go on Twitter if it cuts into time I could be spending with people in my
life who I really care about (corollary: I also resolve to not let work
interfere with my blogging and tweeting).
Now, if anybody has any input for me as a newbie tweeter, please comment here or on Twitter. My handle (is that the right word?) is @lumdog2012.

I
wrote this post for the Week 59 Trifecta Writing Challenge where we are
supposed to write a 33-333 word composition using the word, “intention”, in the
context of what one intends to do or bring about.
Your
comments are appreciated.
Don't be afraid to follow people who interest you. People love to gain followers. And tweet away. Everybody has something to say. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great piece for Trifecta. I like the personal feel to it.
Mel: Thanks for the advice and the kind comments about the piece. I hadn't thought of it as being personal, but I guess my little editorial about not letting it take time away from personal relationships is something that I really belive. Of course, everything is ok in moderation, right?
DeleteI LOVE this, lumdog! It's really interesting, this Twitter thing. The crazier the things you tweet, the more likely someone will tweet you back. I guess I'm just not that funny. What happens to me is I'll tweet about a new post then I start reading what people are saying. Then I read more and I read more and... I get sucked into things too easily. Yesterday, I even tweeted myself to get off Twitter and you know what? It worked! You can interrupt my conversations anytime you want. Great post.
ReplyDeleteThank you for those comments Gina. I saw your tweet yesterday about getting off Twitter and was thinking about you when I wrote my piece!
DeleteInterrupt away lol zomg I love twitter. I get all my news and fandom stuff from it x3 And of course I use it too to promote my terrible writing :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for the offer Draug. I will be interrupting soon! ;) No terrible writing coming from you, I hasten to add!!
DeleteCongrats to your son; what an awesome accomplishment! I still don't "get" twitter, but am starting to see some of the fun. It's kind of like Facebook, only shorter and minus the photos and "like" button. Nice entry!
ReplyDeleteThanks Henry. I think Twitter is more immediate and fast paced. I'm bored with FB. Thanks also for comment about my son. I am very proud! :)
DeleteI wasn't familiar with Slamdance - Sundance, yes, but this was new to me. I see it occurs at the same time. I love film. I have a friend who lives in Santa Barbara, CA and every year I visit her for that festival. It's great fun. Congrats to your son! That's quite an accomplishment! Twitter is fun. I've 'met' some great people. One in particular who lives in Wales. Eventually I will cross the Atlantic to meet her. Check her out: @lordfanny1723 She writes the most amazing, thought-provoking haiku. I interact more than anything. I can't always think of something pithy or witty to say. It's a good way to promote your new posts. I enjoy it considerably more than Facebook. Oh, and I enjoyed your intention post - nicely done!
ReplyDeleteThank you Steph for those comments and being an early Twitter follower.
DeleteSlamdance was established as a friendly alternative to Sundance for films with a budget of less than $1,000,000. That sounds like a lot of money (especially to Dr. Evil), but in the movie business, it is nothing. In my son's case, (and, I should add his girlfriend, who shares equal credit), the budget was astronomically less than that, for which I am as proud as the quality of the film itself.
I'm sorry, but this reply is utterly non-pithy and non-witty, since I sucked you in to allowing me to brag about my son. At least, you are forewarned in case you decide to ever entertain any future bloggy or Tweety conversations with me again.
I will look up your friend in Wales. :)
Welcome to twitterverse! Just jump right in..
ReplyDeleteThank you so much Bo! But you already more than welcomed me as my second follower. :)
DeleteI use FB to interact with family and friends but, I use Twitter to interact with the world. The world is such an interesting place, with so many fascinating people in it. Twitter has definitely replaced tv, as far as being the source of my connection to news and tidbits of interest. This online lifestyle is very addictive, that's for sure. Enjoy.....@Cobourgcobbie.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the insight, Tom. As far as replacing TV, I hardly ever watch, so I can see that it could be a useful source of info. Btw, I enjoy your stuff and think it's very cool that they're are some teachers out there who are really creative and into teaching the kids. Thanks.
DeleteWow that's pretty cool that your son is going to have a film at the film festival! You'll have to post a link for us when all is said and done. I have twitter hooked to my blog! Why? I have absolutely no idea. I only come up with a tweet about every two weeks. It's funny because one of my new years resolutions was to tweet more. LOL! Why? I have absolutely no idea! HA!
ReplyDeleteLinda, thanks for that clear explanation of the positive aspects of linking your blog to Twitter. I'll be sure to jump right on that. As far as keeping you informed about my son's participation in #Slamdance, you needn't worry. I plan to post the trailer next week and will be providing the details, in excruciating detail. After all, he's my son, right?
ReplyDeleteI'm not on Twitter, so I've got no input :)
ReplyDeleteLove the line about not letting work interfere with blogging. That's a good plan!
Thanks Janna.
DeleteLike Janna,I too do not have a Twitter account ,so cannot "twitter" about that;-)But I liked your strategy lumdog-so keep us updated on how it all goes:-)Wish your son all the best for the upcoming fest.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comments and support for my son! ;)
